The best beaches in Cascais for families with kids

Praia do Guincho

Ages: 4+

A big, wild beach with amazing waves and lots of space to run. It's a bit windy, which makes it great for kite flying! The sand dunes are fun to explore. Best for older kids who love adventure.

Praia da Conceição

Ages: All ages

The practical everyday beach in Cascais. Bigger than Rainha, calmer than Guincho, with lifeguards, showers, a couple of bars, and an actual ramp down to the sand if you have a stroller or a beach wagon. This is the beach most local families use the most — big enough to find space even in summer, sheltered enough for small kids, and close to everything.

Praia da Duquesa

Ages: All ages

Essentially Conceição's neighbour — the same stretch of sand divided by some rocks. Same calm water, same lifeguards, same vibe. A bit less crowded because people default to Conceição first. Good option when the main beach is packed and you want a quieter patch of sand with kids.

Praia de Carcavelos

Ages: 5+

The biggest beach in the Cascais-Lisbon corridor and the best for surf lessons. A long, wide stretch of sand with plenty of space even on busy days. Multiple surf schools offer beginner lessons for kids 6+. There are beach bars, showers, and lifeguards the full length. The waves are bigger than Cascais centre beaches, so better suited to older kids or confident swimmers.
