Fun things to do with the kids in and around Cascais

Boca do Inferno

Ages: 3+

The 'Mouth of Hell' — a dramatic cliff formation where the waves crash through a cave. Kids think it's super cool! There's a safe walking path along the coast. Great for a family walk from Cascais center.

Cidadela de Cascais

Ages: All ages

A former fortress turned art district next to the marina. Small, walkable, with galleries, open studios, and a couple of cafés. Kids enjoy the fortress walls and sea views. Better as a 30-minute pre-dinner stroll than a full destination — but paired with the marina and an ice cream, it rounds out a nice late afternoon. Free to wander.

Marina de Cascais

Ages: All ages

The Cascais marina is a great free wander with kids. Watching the boats come and go, counting sailboats, spotting fish in the water. There are a few restaurants and ice cream spots around the edge. Combine with the Cidadela next door and the paredão for a full afternoon. Flat and fully stroller-friendly. Best in the late afternoon light.

Cabo da Roca

Ages: 4+

The westernmost point of continental Europe — and kids love this fact disproportionately. Dramatic cliffs, a lighthouse, and a 'you are here at the edge of the world' feeling. The drive from Cascais takes about 20 minutes through Sintra Natural Park. Hold hands near the edges. There's a small café and a gift shop that sells certificates proving you were there. Best paired with Guincho or Sintra for a half-day trip.
